Nidhogg

Nidhögg (Níðhöggr) is a black dragon (in Norse mythology) who gnaws at the roots of the world tree, "Yggdrasil". 
It is sometimes believed that the roots are trapping the beast from the world.
The squirrel called Ratatosk (Ratatöskr) runs up and down the length of the tree, bearing envious words between the eagle (on the top) who sometimes was replaced with the rooster Gyllenkammre and the dragon Nidhögg (at the bottom).
It was also said that Nidhögg sometimes was in the death kingdom HEL where he feeds on the dead.

By time he will succeed to bite off the roots and make the world tree fall.
And then the horrible Fimbulvinter will arrive, and after that the doomsday (Ragnarök).  


This drawing of the dragon Nidhögg was actually made back in 2009.  
I got bored from seeing that unfinished drawing in my old sketch pad.
So I decided to give it some more details and give it some digital coloring.
I feel better now. After all these years I FINALLY finished it!
